Do I need a gun license to shoot at Gower Clay Pigeon Shooting?

Accepted Answer

No. We have a ‘Section 11 Exemption’ issued by South Wales Police which allows the use of shotguns while under instruction by our staff on our ground without the need of a Shotgun Certificate.

Am I insured to shoot?

We have public liability insurance cover up to £5 million.

Is it safe?

Accepted Answer

Safety is of paramount importance. We are constantly monitoring the safety aspects of the Shooting Ground and have an exemplary record to date. Both instructors are also CPSA trained. Any accidents or untoward incidents must be reported to  staff immediately.

Question 4

Does the recoil hurt?

Accepted Answer

No. Providing the gun is held correctly, you should only feel little effect of the recoil. We use lower recoil cartridges for beginners as well as smaller bore shotguns for women and youngsters.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Being an outdoor sport we do shoot in all weathers. Therefore we will continue to shoot in rain and snow. The only time we will need to stop is for thunder and lightening. Unless conditions are considered dangerous, we are happy to continue in inclement weather depending on the client's wishes.

Do I need special clothing to shoot?

Normal outdoor clothing suitable for the weather conditions at the time is sufficient. A shooting skete vest, ear protection and eye protection will also be provided.We strongly recommend that all clients and their guests use the hearing protection provided at all times when on the shooting ground. We also recommend the wearing of caps and eye glasses for protection from falling pieces of clay.

Is it loud?

Yes, the shotgun is loud, however, ear and eye protection are provided for all participants.

Do you have parking?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We have plenty of car parking at the well known Cwm Ivy Car Park field within 5 minutes of the shooting ground.

What age can children shoot?

Normally from about 15 years old but possibly younger depending on build.

Question 10

Are the guns heavy?

Accepted Answer

Some shotguns can weigh over 8lbs but lighter guns are generally used for beginners, women and youngsters.
